**DISASTER STRIKES*
**Fire in Llandeilo Scout Hall**
Dear Sir or Madam
I am the Scout Leader in Llandeilo. Tonight Thursday the 1st of March 2007 we were the unfortunate victims of a pyromaniac vandal or vandals.
This is the centenary year of Scouting, less than a week ago over 700 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Rainbows, Brownies and Guides marched through Carmarthen as part of this celebration.
In Llandeilo the Scout Group has thirty young members between 6 yrs and 14 yrs old. The Scout hall is also used by the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides. All Groups are now temporarily homeless. Damage to the hall is severe and we are awaiting news from insurers as to if and when repairs will be carried out. This means that we are looking for a temporary home for at least six weeks. All Scouts and Guide sections will continue as soon as a temporary venue is found. If any of your listeners can help we would appreciate it greatly.
The most upsetting news is that the Scout Group store has been completely gutted by the fire. We are looking at over £8,000 worth of equipment damage. This is going to be near impossible to recover from.
The group had over 50 years of history in Llandeilo and moved into the hall in 1977. Flags, Group Standards and artefacts are lost. Tents are ruined and camping equipment burnt to cinders. All of our hiking equipment, compasses and first aid kits are literally melted into a useless mould of plastic. The fire has ruined nearly £1000 of uniforms and badges for the new members. Beavers lost hundreds of pounds of art and craft equipment.
We would like to thank the fire service in Llandeilo for their quick response and skill that saved the rest of the hall from any more than smoke damage. They were wonderful with the leaders as they arrived for the evenings Cub Scout meeting.

If there is any more information you need you can contact me. I hope whoever is responsible is found and held accountable but my main concern and that of all Leaders is that we can continue in Llandeilo. This is a devastating blow and we would like the group to continue but we will need help.

Scouting in Llandeilo is relatively new, again? We are entering our third year as the current group.
We have built up three sections so far.
Beavers were re-started three years ago, followed last summer with Cubs and now we have Scouts.
Beaver Scouts are the youngest section in the Scouting family.
Aged from six years to eight years and recognised by the distinctive turquoise sweatshirts.
Meeting once a week the Beavers; Make friends, play games, go on visits and help other people.
Sleepover’s are popular and often involve the neighbouring group in Llandovery.
The Beaver movement celebrated its 20th birthday in 2006.
Cub Scouts are the progression in the Scout Movement that follows after Beavers.
Cubs are aged eight to ten and a half.
The uniform for the Cubs is the traditional green jumper recognised by everyone.
Meeting once a week the Cubs learn their Promise and Law.
Activities are similar to those in Beavers but a Cub gets to go camping and is able to be part of more outdoor events and activities.
The Cub Scout Movement celebrated its 90th birthday in 2006.
Scouts are aged between ten and a half and fourteen years old.
The uniform is the famous green shirt.
The activities in Scouts again are along the same lines as Beavers and Cubs but again they get more involved in what they do, the content of the badges is also far more demanding.
The Camping trips are more age based and the activities are advanced.
The Scout movement will be celebrating 100 years in 2007.
